CJ Zeija Launches "Naked Truth Part 2," Champions Strong Families as Foundation of Justice
The Chief Justice, Dr. Flavian Zeija, has launched Naked Truth Part 2, a book authored by the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr. Pius Bigirimana, describing it as a bold and timely contribution to addressing societal challenges affecting families and national stability.
The launch, held at the Judiciary Headquarters in Kampala on March 23, brought together judicial leaders, government officials, and members of the public, united by a call for open dialogue on issues often treated as private but with far-reaching public consequences.
Speaking as Guest of Honour, the Chief Justice said the event was not merely about unveiling a book, but about confronting difficult societal realities through intellectual courage.
"We are gathered here not just to launch a book, but to witness the intellectual audacity of a man who refuses to remain silent in the face of societal decay," he said.
Drawing from his experience on the bench, the Chief Justice pointed to the rising number of family-related disputes, ranging from divorce and child custody battles to inheritance conflicts, as a reflection of deeper societal challenges and weakening family structures.
"At the bench, we see the consequences daily; broken homes, disputes over children, and succession battles. These reflect deeper challenges within our society," he noted.
He emphasized that strong families are the bedrock of a stable nation, describing the book as a tool for what he termed as "preventative justice."
"The security of the State begins at the fireplace of the home. When families are stable, the nation stands firm," he added.
The Chief Justice also underscored the importance of supporting local authors, noting that nations must tell their own stories to preserve identity and intellectual independence.
"A nation that does not read its own authors is a nation without a mirror," he said, before officially launching the book.
The Principal Judge, Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, commended Dr. Bigirimana for his courage and consistency in addressing sensitive yet critical issues affecting society. She described him as a reformer whose contributions extend beyond administration into shaping public discourse.
"When the first Naked Truth was published, we saw a man who is not afraid to say what others only think. It takes courage to address issues that touch the most private aspects of our lives," she said.
She noted that the success of the first edition demonstrated the relevance of such conversations and praised the release of a second volume as a sign of sustained commitment to guiding society.
Dr. Bigirimana, in his remarks, said the book is grounded in real-life experiences rather than fiction, drawing inspiration from both personal and professional encounters, including his time at the Ministry of Gender where he observed widespread family conflict.
"All my books are prompted by real-life incidents," he said.
He explained that Naked Truth Part 2 builds on the first volume by exploring the broader dynamics of relationships and family life, emphasizing communication, clarity of roles, and mutual responsibility.
"When identity in a home is not clear, roles become competition," he observed.
He called on men to embrace responsible leadership in the home through action, while encouraging women to uphold values that nurture stable and supportive family environments.
Dr. Bigirimana also expressed appreciation to Judiciary leadership for providing a conducive environment that enables him to serve effectively while pursuing intellectual work.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Maj. Gen. David Kasura-Kyomukama, urged Ugandans to document their experiences to preserve national memory and prevent distortion of history.
"This country is rich with experiences, but many of them are not written down. When history is not documented, every day appears as though it defines the past," he said.
In a personal reflection, Mrs. Elizabeth Bigirimana described the book as a product of discipline, purpose, and a deep commitment to truth. She highlighted the dedication behind the writing process and expressed confidence that the book will inspire meaningful conversations and strengthen families.
"It is truly a joy and honour to celebrate a book that has already sparked important conversations," she said.
The launch concluded with a renewed call for open dialogue, responsible living, and the strengthening of family structures as a foundation for a just and stable society.
